Deborah Bottreau

Deborah's love affair with horses began when she was very young. Her mother,an active competitive rider in many disciplines from Dressage to Flat and Hurdle Racing, taught her to ride when she was 2 years old and since, Deborah shares her love for horses with school, university, travelling, other sports and now her job as a business development executive and graphic designer in an IT Company based in Kuala Lumpur.

Born in Singapore,Deborah rides for Malaysia where she grew up and is also very proud to wear the Argentine colours from time to time at the international events representing her home country where she spent most of her holidays.

Deborah's early successes were as a junior rider on her pony Priscilla, she was Show Jumping Junior Champion riders for several seasons.Today Deborah regularly rides her old boy Supernova a chestnut thoroughbred which is exactly what his name means,a sudden explosion ..."it can happen anytime, anywhere and soon after...he is a fantastic ride.." she says smiling.

Particularly talented in handling difficult thoroughbreds, lately she took on the challenge to partner a known difficult but gorgeous to her ex-race horse Forever Charming."I love him so much, but he is so sensitive we have to nurse him from the stable into the ring, though every jump is a separate challenge,he gives me the most fantastic feeling over them. This last season we were very successful;hoping to just get round we ended up greeting the judges and bringing home lots of rosettes "

Deborah looks forward to another successful season, with her thoroughbreds, and her new addition a Bay Brown TB Mare DB Senorita, previously owned by her friend Michelle Barrera.

" One of my most exciting moments was jumping at the KL Grand Prix indoor in the Young Rider Class and my wins last season on Supernova. This year I will take it easy with him as he is already 19,my mother evented him so he is also a nice dressage ride.We like to take all our horses together to the shows, this includes our new prospect ex-race horse Double Tap.I will take Charming & DB Senorita in the higher classes.

During the off season I like to travel and socialize" says Deborah.

"The horses go to the Hills to my mum's place where she runs a really nice riding and spelling facility. The horses thrive in the cool breezy highland environment and enjoy the conditioning rides up the hills much more than the conventional flat work, and so do I,it is also great quality time with friends and family "

Age:17

"I first started riding when I was living in France ,at the age of 6.As we moved from country to country due to my dad's work, one of the first things we did once we settled in was to look for a riding school. When we were living in Russia,we would often go to watch the world class horse shows, and even travelled to England to watch Olympia ( The London International Horse Show ).

These visits introduced me to the world of show jumping and cultivated my interest in the equestrian sport. My show jumping career took flight when I moved to Dubai at the age of 10.There,I entered my first competition ( the height of the jumps at around 40-60cm ) on a sweet pony named Bilbo, and placed 3rd.Soon after,we were transferred back home to KL, and my competitiveness in the equestrian sports escalated.I am now riding a pony named Pepsi from STC and am entering classes at the metre level. We are in good form this year, thanks to my coaches Alex Maurer and Mohd Razali. I am also currently searching for another horse so that I would be able to enter higher level competitions such as the SEA Young Riders Series, the KL Grand Prix and the Youth Olympics.
